Leading A ReelAbilities Film Festival

The potential organization shares our mission and passion of presenting the lives and stories of people with disabilities to audiences through film.

We provide:

– The ReelAbilities Film Festival form and program
– First-rate films to choose from at a pre-negotiated reduced screening fee
– Branding and marketing materials
– Customized website and tech assistance
– Guidance and support in planning, organizing and promoting the event
– Connecting with speakers, programs and partner organizations

Lead organization:

– With a disability/arts/film orientation
– Devoted to sharing exceptional films about people with disabilities with your community
– Able to lead a large scale multi-screening and visitor event
– Able to establish local partnerships, collaborations and sponsorships with other community
organizations to support the event
– Able to provide accessible venues and aids for screenings and programs
– Able to promote the event within your community and beyond

Submit a film

Submissions for the 2024 ReelAbilities Film Festival is now closed. Please mark ReelAbilities as favorite on FilmFreeway to receive an alert once submissions are open for the 2025 season.

RULES & TERMS

We are looking for films from around the world presenting the lives and stories of disabled individuals and communities (in front or behind the camera) that explore, embrace, and celebrate the diversity of the shared human experience.

We accept features (over 40 min), shorts (up to 40 min), narratives and documentaries from all countries.

We prioritize films that are made by disabled creators, and that include authentic representations from actors, writers, directors, and crew with lived experiences with disabilities.

In addition – we encourage and prioritize submissions which include captions and audio description.

PLEASE NOTE:

All films must be submitted to ReelAbilities Film Festival: New York via the main Film Freeway submission platform. Films accepted for ReelAbilities Film Festival: New York will be made eligible to be part of the ReelAbilities International program, allowing partner cities throughout the US, Canada and Latin America to select those films for their festivals.

Films that have been (or plan to be) widely/commercially released in the US (theatrically and/or online) prior to the festival are not eligible for submission.

Volunteering for ReelAbilities Film Festival is a terrific way to get involved in the festival at the ground level! The commitment and generosity of our volunteers is the foundation that makes our festival a great success.  

Volunteering at our festivals is hard work, but also lots of fun- you can meet filmmakers from around the world, interact with our audience and watch great films and conversations!
